Suzhou, a large city in eastern China, has a recorded population of about 6.7 million. It shares the country's single official standard, the Asia/Shanghai zone at UTC+8, which China maintains nationwide without daylight saving time. Clocks in the city stay eight hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time throughout the year. Located in the lower Yangtze delta near 31.3°N, 120.6°E, Suzhou sits within one of the most densely urbanised regions of the country. Its size places it firmly among China's major metropolitan centres, even though it is not a provincial or national capital.
