Overview
The capital of China, Beijing has a population of about 19 million in the country's north, near 40 degrees north latitude. Like every Chinese city, it follows China Standard Time at UTC+8 and does not shift its clocks for daylight saving, keeping local time eight hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time year-round. This nationwide single zone covers a landmass wide enough to span five geographic time bands, so the capital shares one official reading with cities on the eastern seaboard and along the western border alike. Because Beijing observes no seasonal transitions, its offset to global time remains constant, avoiding the biannual adjustments common across Europe and North America.
