Shanghai is the most populous city in China, home to roughly 24.9 million people on the country's central-eastern coast. Though not the national capital, it stands among the largest urban centres in the world. The city keeps China Standard Time, the single UTC+8 offset applied across the entire mainland, and does not observe daylight saving, so its clocks hold at eight hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time through every season. Located near 31 degrees north latitude, Shanghai lies in the Northern Hemisphere and shares its official time with every other Chinese city, from the northern capital to the far western frontier.
