In southwestern China near 31 degrees north latitude, Chengdu is a large inland city of about 13.6 million people. It follows China Standard Time, the single UTC+8 offset used across the whole country, and observes no daylight saving, keeping local clocks eight hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time in all seasons. Although the city lies deep in the country's interior, far to the west of the coastal metropolises, the nationwide zone gives it the same official time as cities on the eastern seaboard. This produces later sunrises and sunsets by the clock than its longitude alone would suggest, while the absence of seasonal shifts keeps its offset to global time constant.
