Overview
Keeping India Standard Time at UTC+5:30, Mumbai is a coastal city of roughly 12.7 million people on the western shore of India, near 19 degrees north latitude. The half-hour offset is shared by the entire country, which uses a single time zone despite spanning a wide east-west range, and India does not observe daylight saving. As a result Mumbai's clocks stay five and a half hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time in every season. The unusual thirty-minute offset places the city on a fractional band relative to most of the world, and its fixed value makes conversions to other regions consistent throughout the year.
