Baghdad is the capital of Iraq, with a population of roughly 7.2 million on the Tigris near 33 degrees north latitude. It observes Arabia Standard Time at UTC+3 and does not adjust its clocks for daylight saving, so local time stays three hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time in every season. Located in the Northern Hemisphere at the edge of the subtropics, the city has hot summers and mild winters with moderate change in day length. Its fixed offset holds the difference to other regions constant across the year, sharing the UTC+3 band with much of the Arabian Peninsula and the Gulf.
