Overview
Lagos is the largest city in Nigeria, with a population near 15.4 million, though the federal capital is Abuja. Located about 6 degrees north of the equator on the West African coast, it lies within the tropics of the Northern Hemisphere. The city observes West Africa Time at UTC+1 and makes no daylight-saving adjustment, so its clocks stay one hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time throughout the year. This equatorial setting gives Lagos little seasonal variation in day length, and its constant offset provides a stable reference for coordinating with other regions, unaffected by the seasonal transitions used farther from the equator.
