Lima is the capital of Peru, with around 7.7 million residents on the Pacific coast near 12 degrees south latitude. Lying in the Southern Hemisphere tropics, it sees limited seasonal variation in daylight. The city keeps Peru Time at UTC-5 and does not observe daylight saving, so its clocks stay five hours behind Coordinated Universal Time throughout the year. Its coastal setting near the cold Humboldt Current gives it a mild, often overcast climate despite the low latitude. Lima's fixed offset provides a constant reference for coordinating with other regions, placing much of western South America on the same whole-hour band.
