Kabul is the capital and largest city of Afghanistan, with a population of roughly 4.4 million. It observes the Asia/Kabul time zone at UTC+4:30, an unusual half-hour offset held constant without daylight saving, which keeps local clocks four and a half hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. The city occupies a high mountain valley in the country's east near 34.5°N, 69.2°E, at considerable elevation.
